{"id":20925,"date":"2025-12-11T14:35:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T12:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/senegal-has-no-plans-to-nationalise-yakaar-teranga-gas-field\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:32:07","slug":"senegal-has-no-plans-to-nationalise-yakaar-teranga-gas-field","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/senegal-has-no-plans-to-nationalise-yakaar-teranga-gas-field\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Senegal has no plans to nationalise Yakaar-Teranga gas field\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kosmos Energy said this Thursday that Senegal\u2019s Energy MMinistry has confirmed it has no plans to nationalise the Yakaar-Teranga gas field, in which Kosmos holds a 90% stake, but added it will return the licence by next July if no new partner joins the project.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senegal&#8217;s Energy Minister Birame Souleye Diop said on Tuesday that the government wanted to nationalise Yakaar-Teranga, in which the state-run Petrosen holds a 10% stake. The two companies have been looking for at least one more partner to enter the project in order to progress a development plan but no breakthrough has been reached yet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kosmos became the operator of the Yakaar-Teranga gas field in 2023 after BP decided to exit. The company&#8217;s licence for the field runs out in July 2026.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kosmos Energy has worked hard with Petrosen to find a suitable partner and agree a commercially viable development concept for the field.
