{"id":20972,"date":"2025-12-12T10:25:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T08:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/salah-will-leave-behind-liverpool-tension-to-play-for-egypt-in-africa-cup\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:32:09","slug":"salah-will-leave-behind-liverpool-tension-to-play-for-egypt-in-africa-cup","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/salah-will-leave-behind-liverpool-tension-to-play-for-egypt-in-africa-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Salah will leave behind Liverpool tension to play for Egypt in Africa Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">Mohamed Salah will escape the tension at Liverpool for a spell when he heads to Morocco with Egypt next week for the Africa Cup of Nations, following his clash with the Premier League champions\u2019 manager Arne Slot.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>Egypt coach Hossam Hassan confirmed Salah&#8217;s place in the side on Thursday when he announced his 28-man squad for the tournament, which kicks off on December 21, and the 33-year-old winger will miss at least two league games for Liverpool.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Club talisman Salah caused a media storm with comments after last weekend&#8217;s Premier League draw with Leeds United when he said he had been made a scapegoat for Liverpool&#8217;s poor form and that his relationship with Slot had deteriorated.<\/div>\n<div>Salah was an unused substitute against Leeds, as he was in the game against West Ham United last month, and he was left out of the squad for the midweek 1-0 win at Inter Milan in the Champions League.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Salah will be available for the Brighton &amp; Hove Albion game on Saturday after FIFA ruled that players needed to join their national teams only a week before the Africa Cup finals.
