{"id":21195,"date":"2025-12-17T06:58:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T04:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/afdb-raises-11-bln-for-low-cost-lending-window-no-word-on-us-funding\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:32:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:32:19","slug":"afdb-raises-11-bln-for-low-cost-lending-window-no-word-on-us-funding","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/afdb-raises-11-bln-for-low-cost-lending-window-no-word-on-us-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"AfDB raises $11 bln for low-cost lending window, no word on US funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The African Development Bank (AfDB) raised $11 billion for its fund that lends money to low-income countries on favourable terms, it said on Tuesday, surpassing the previous replenishment round&#8217;s figure but falling short of its initial target.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\nOfficials at AfDB had initially aimed to raise $25 billion for the African Development Fund (ADF), which is replenished every three years, after raising $8.9 billion in 2022.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The AfDB, Africa&#8217;s biggest development lender, made the announcement after a two-day donor pledging conference in London, which was overshadowed by waning United States (US) engagement.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">&#8220;In one of the most difficult global environments for development finance, our partners chose ambition over retrenchment, and investment over inertia,&#8221; Sidi Ould Tah, AfDB&#8217;s president, said in a statement.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Some 19 African nations, including Kenya, Zambia and Ivory Coast, made their first ever contributions to the fund, AfDB said, with African member states of the bank pledging $182.7 million.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The AfDB&#8217;s statement did not disclose whether the US pledged any funding.
