{"id":21344,"date":"2025-12-19T06:16:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T04:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/malawians-left-stranded-after-their-overloaded-bus-was-impounded\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:32:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:32:26","slug":"malawians-left-stranded-after-their-overloaded-bus-was-impounded","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/malawians-left-stranded-after-their-overloaded-bus-was-impounded\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawians left stranded after their overloaded bus was impounded"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Some Malawian nationals who were travelling in an overloaded bus have been left stranded in Polokwane, Limpopo province.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The 65-seater bus was carrying 117 people, including 15 minors travelling from Gauteng province to Malawi.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div>Traffic officials impounded it on the N1 in Polokwane and the driver was arrested.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">One of the passengers Elastin Khamanga says he requested to be refunded his bus fare when he realised that it was overloaded.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Khamanga says he doesn\u2019t feel safe at the traffic centre.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">He says they are waiting for the bus owner to pay a fine for the bus to be released.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div>\u201cWe are stranded here, we didn\u2019t eat since the morning till now. We are trying to push the owner of the bus but he is just saying just wait just wait but you see all this people are suffering.
