South African captain Ronwen Williams says he believes the team will give a good account of themselves at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament (AFCON), which kicks off in Morocco, this evening.<\/p>\n
The captain has appealed to the football Gods to bless Bafana Bafana with a second AFCON title and a first since 1996.<\/p>\n
Bafana Bafana are aiming to build on their impressive performance at the previous AFCON tournament, where they won the bronze medal. They open their campaign with a Group B match against Angola in Marrakesh on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, soccer fans from around the continent have gathered in Morocco for this year\u2019s AFCON.<\/p>\n
The tournament kicks off at 21h00 on Sunday when the Atlas Lions take on Comoros.<\/p>\n
The Moroccan fans believe their team is the favourite to lift the cup, but not everyone is convinced.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really excited to see the opening. I\u2019m also excited to go to Tangier and see the Sengalese games,\u201d says a fan.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m hoping that South Africa will go to the final, because last time we did so well, so this year, we\u2019re hoping to lift it,\u201d says another fan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cup is for Morocco, this year. You\u2019re not going to beat us this year. So yes, Vive le Morocco,\u201d adds another fan.<\/p>\n
Moroccans say their country is ready to host the rest of the continent at this year\u2019s AFCON tournament.<\/p>\n
