On Wednesday, Honorable Abdoulie Janneh met with the heads of election missions from the African Union, the International Organisation of La Francophonie, and the Mano River Union, alongside the Secretary General of Guinea\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Guineans Abroad, representing Honorable Morissanda Kouyat\u00e9.<\/p>\n

The delegation subsequently paid courtesy visits to Fod\u00e9 Bangoura, First President of the Supreme Court, and Amadou Oury Bah, Prime Minister of Guinea.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are here to offer Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) full support and solidarity to the Republic of Guinea for peaceful, free and transparent presidential elections,\u201d Janneh said. \u201cWe commend the Guinean authorities for their commitment to organising successful elections and their efforts to fully reintegrate into the ECOWAS family.\u201d<\/p>\n

On November 9, the Guinean Supreme Court validated the candidacies of nine individuals for the presidential election scheduled for December 28, including the President of the military transition, General Mamadi Doumbouya. Of an estimated population exceeding 14 million, approximately 6.7 million voters will be called to the polls.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The President of Guinea is elected using a two-round, first-past-the-post system for a seven-year term, renewable once. Should no candidate achieve an absolute majority in the first round, a second round is held fourteen days later, with the candidate receiving the most votes declared elected.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This election will determine Guinea\u2019s next President and mark the conclusion of the transitional period, returning the country to constitutional order following the adoption of a new constitution by referendum on September 21, 2025.<\/p>\n
