Members of Uganda\u2019s main opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), have staged a demonstration outside South Africa\u2019s (SA) High Commission in Pretoria, rejecting the outcome of Uganda\u2019s recently concluded presidential election.<\/p>\n

The protesters said they do not recognise President Yoweri Museveni as the country\u2019s leader, after he was declared the winner of the 2026 presidential poll, securing a seventh term in office.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Ugandan opposition supporters based in SA accused authorities back home of electoral fraud and intimidation, saying the vote did not reflect the will of the people.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the protest, NUP\u2019s Co-ordinator in SA, Richard Kamya, said the party had gathered extensive evidence pointing to irregularities in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t recognise the results pronounced in the recently concluded election back in Uganda,\u201d Kamya said. \u201cThere is enough evidence all over the country and all over the internet showing that the election was rigged. We have the military running away with ballot boxes, the military ticking ballot papers, and entire polling areas where electoral officers were filling in ballots themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The opposition has consistently challenged Museveni\u2019s long rule, accusing his government of suppressing dissent and manipulating electoral processes. Ugandan authorities have previously dismissed such allegations, maintaining that the elections were free and fair.<\/p>\n
