{"id":22851,"date":"2026-01-25T06:12:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T04:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/saftu-slams-38-salary-increase-for-top-political-office-bearers\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:33:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:33:44","slug":"saftu-slams-38-salary-increase-for-top-political-office-bearers","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/saftu-slams-38-salary-increase-for-top-political-office-bearers\/","title":{"rendered":"SAFTU slams 3,8% salary increase for top political office-bearers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) has strongly condemned President Cyril Ramaphosa\u2019s decision to approve a 3,8% salary increase for top political office-bearers, calling it insensitive.<\/p>\n<p>The increases will cover remuneration packages for the SA President, Deputy President, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Premiers, MECs and Members of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>SAFTU Secretary General Zwelinzima Vavi, says this decision is scandalous, especially at a time when millions of South Africans are barely surviving under worsening economic conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an insult to workers, because already some three to seven million workers, are earning below even a national minimum wage of R5500.
