{"id":22992,"date":"2026-01-28T06:33:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T04:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/ghana-who-agree-on-strengthened-health-partnerships-system-reforms\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:33:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:33:53","slug":"ghana-who-agree-on-strengthened-health-partnerships-system-reforms","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/ghana-who-agree-on-strengthened-health-partnerships-system-reforms\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana, WHO agree on strengthened health partnerships, system reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have agreed to deepen co-operation to strengthen the country\u2019s health system and advance Africa\u2019s health sovereignty agenda.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This follows a two-day visit by WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohammed Janabi, who held high-level meetings with President John Dramani Mahama, the Health Minister, and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority from January 2026, 26 to 27.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During the meetings, both sides committed to aligning WHO\u2019s technical support with Ghana\u2019s Accra Reset Initiative, which prioritises national ownership of health policies while encouraging partners to work within country-defined priorities. Key areas of focus included universal health coverage, sustainable health financing, and reforms to improve access to primary healthcare, including support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) and the Free Primary Health Care Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Janabi highlighted WHO\u2019s ongoing commitment to helping Ghana and other African countries build resilient, equitable, and sustainable health systems.
