{"id":23279,"date":"2026-02-04T08:00:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T06:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/key-ruling-expected-on-former-sa-president-arms-deal-case\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:34:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:34:06","slug":"key-ruling-expected-on-former-sa-president-arms-deal-case","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/key-ruling-expected-on-former-sa-president-arms-deal-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Key ruling expected on former SA President arms deal case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">Two key court rulings are expected today in South Africa&#8217;s (SA) Pietermaritzburg High Court in KwaZulu-Natal.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The long running arms deal corruption case involving former SA President Jacob Zuma and French arms company Thales.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Legal analyst Mpumelelo Zikalala says the court is expected to rule on Zuma and Thales&#8217; application for leave to appeal an earlier decision by Judge Nkosinathi Chili, who dismissed their bid for acquittal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The court will also decide whether the criminal trial can proceed while that appeal process is still underway a ruling that could determine whether the matter moves forward after years of delays.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Zuma and Thales are facing charges of racketeering, corruption, fraud and money laundering linked to the controversial multi billion rand arms procurement deal of the late 1990s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8211;SABC&#8211;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":20432,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[26],"class_list":["post-23279","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":null,"news_description":"Zuma's arm deal case","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/23279","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/23279\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":26296,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/23279\/revisions\/26296"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/20432"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=23279"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=23279"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
