{"id":23539,"date":"2026-02-10T05:21:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T03:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/kenya-to-engage-russia-over-reports-of-citizens-recruited-to-fight-in-ukraine\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:34:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:34:19","slug":"kenya-to-engage-russia-over-reports-of-citizens-recruited-to-fight-in-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/kenya-to-engage-russia-over-reports-of-citizens-recruited-to-fight-in-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya to engage Russia over reports of citizens recruited to fight in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kenyan government says it will formally engage Russia following growing reports that Kenyan citizens are being recruited to fight in the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <em>BBC,<\/em> Kenya\u2019s Foreign Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, described the alleged recruitment as \u201cunacceptable\u201d and \u201cclandestine\u201d, raising concern over how citizens are being drawn into a foreign conflict.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mudavadi said the government believes the number of Kenyans involved could be significant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that maybe close to 200 Kenyans could be involved. But as things stand now, the government of Kenya has helped to repatriate about 27.
