Arianna Fontana became Italy’s most decorated Olympian after leading her country to silver in the women’s 3 000 meters short track relay at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champions, Finland, are through to the men’s ice hockey semi-finals after overcoming Switzerland 3-2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But Norway continues to lead the medals table ahead of Italy and the United States.<\/p>\n

Fontana became her country’s most decorated Olympian when she led Italy to silver in the women’s 3 000 meters short track relay.<\/p>\n

It was the\u00a014th\u00a0Olympic medal of Fontana’s career, eclipsing the record of fencer\u00a0Edoardo\u00a0Mangiarotti\u00a0who won 13 medals between 1936 and 1960.<\/p>\n

South Korea took gold and Canada bronze.<\/p>\n

It was the first short track gold of the Games for the Koreans, the most successful nation in the discipline at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, reigning Olympic champions Finland made a remarkable comeback to beat Switzerland 3-2 in overtime and reach the men’s ice hockey semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Switzerland let a two-goal advantage slip away, which they had held from the opening period, as the Finns scored twice in the final period, including the equalizer with just over a minute left in regulation.<\/p>\n

In sudden death,\u00a0Lehkonen\u00a0kept his nerve in front of goal to end the contest just over three minutes into overtime.<\/p>\n

At the\u00a0Santagiulia\u00a0Arena, Mitch\u00a0Marner\u00a0secured a place for Canada in the final four with an overtime goal that lifted the favourite past the Czech Republic 4-3.<\/p>\n

Canada will be re-seeded along with the other three semi-finalists, with the top seed playing the lowest surviving seed and the second and third seeds facing off on Friday.<\/p>\n

Slovakia booked their final-four slot earlier on Wednesday, dispatching Germany 6-2.<\/p>\n

In other news, \u00a0Brazil’s first-ever Winter Olympic\u00a0medallist, Lucas\u00a0Pinheiro\u00a0Braathen, brought a Brazilian carnival celebration to the frigid Italian Alps, in celebration of his historic gold medal.<\/p>\n

The alpine skier won the giant slalom on Saturday, becoming the first person representing South America to medal in the Winter Games.<\/p>\n

While showing his moves off on stage, the Norway-born Brazilian stopped to sign autographs and take selfies with adoring fans.<\/p>\n

He was joined on stage by dancers and a Brazilian pagode band that played music typical of Brazilian carnival celebrations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
