{"id":24220,"date":"2026-02-25T10:35:53","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers\/channelafrica\/news\/imf-staff-mission-due-in-kenya-this-week-for-talks-on-new-deal\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:34:56","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:34:56","slug":"imf-staff-mission-due-in-kenya-this-week-for-talks-on-new-deal","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/imf-staff-mission-due-in-kenya-this-week-for-talks-on-new-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF staff mission due in Kenya this week for talks on new deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was due to arrive in Kenya on Tuesday to discuss a new loan programme, the government said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The East African nation has sought to clinch a new lending programme after the expiry of the previous $3.6 billion deal in April and both sides have since held a series of talks in Nairobi and Washington.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;An IMF team is scheduled to visit Kenya from February 24 to March 4, 2026 to continue discussions on a successor arrangement aimed at supporting key policy reforms and potentially providing financial assistance,&#8221; the government said in a Eurobond prospectus released publicly late on Tuesday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The talks are aimed at ensuring that any new programme aligns with Kenya&#8217;s &#8220;fiscal and economic priorities&#8221; while supporting macroeconomic stability, the government said in the prospectus, part of a $2.25 billion issuance last week.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Washington-based lender did not immediately react to a request for comment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Finance Minister John Mbadi said earlier this month that Nairobi had formally requested a new programme.
