{"id":27072,"date":"2026-02-27T11:19:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T09:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhb-webdevelopers-qa\/channelafrica\/news\/un-envoy-urges-sustained-global-support-for-car\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:35:01","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:35:01","slug":"un-envoy-urges-sustained-global-support-for-car","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/un-envoy-urges-sustained-global-support-for-car\/","title":{"rendered":"UN envoy urges sustained global support for CAR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>United Nations (UN) Secretary-General\u2019s Special Representative for the Central African Republic (CAR), Valentine Rugwabiza, has briefed the UN Security Council on the latest political and security developments in the country, warning that persistent instability continues to threaten fragile gains.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rugwabiza, who also heads the UN peacekeeping mission UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA), outlined ongoing security challenges, including the activities of armed groups and the vulnerability of civilian populations in certain regions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Addressing members of the UN Security Council, she stressed that while progress has been made in extending state authority and supporting electoral and governance processes, the situation remains delicate and requires sustained engagement from international partners.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rugwabiza underscored the importance of continued financial, logistical and political backing for peacekeeping and stabilisation efforts, arguing that premature disengagement could reverse hard-won advances.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CAR has faced years of conflict driven by armed factions, political tensions and humanitarian pressures.
