{"id":27817,"date":"2026-03-05T13:17:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T11:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=27817"},"modified":"2026-03-05T13:17:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T11:17:16","slug":"ongoing-electricity-outages-delay-mugabes-case","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/ongoing-electricity-outages-delay-mugabes-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Ongoing electricity outages delay Mugabe\u2019s case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The South African (SA) Parliament&#8217;s Justice Portfolio Committee says it wants answers on the constant power outages at the Alexandra Magistrate&#8217;s Court in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, which result in the postponement of cases.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\nThe case against Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze was again rolled over to next week, as the court was without power, a second time.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\nThey face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and breaching SA&#8217;s immigration laws.<\/p>\n<p>Parliament&#8217;s Justice Portfolio Committee now says it will haul Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi before it, to explain the ongoing electricity challenges at the Alexandra Magistrate&#8217;s Court as well as at other courts around the country.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">They have also bemoaned the conditions outside this court.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\nHowever, a number of cases had to be postponed or rolled over since Monday, possibly creating an additional backlog.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;SABC&#8211;<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":14049,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[26],"class_list":["post-27817","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":"","news_description":"Bellarmine Mugabe's court case","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/27817","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/27817\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":27818,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/27817\/revisions\/27818"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/14049"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=27817"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=27817"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
