{"id":27882,"date":"2026-03-06T10:39:53","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T08:39:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=27882"},"modified":"2026-03-06T10:41:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T08:41:06","slug":"sa-miners-to-bid-for-manganese-export-terminal-concession","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-miners-to-bid-for-manganese-export-terminal-concession\/","title":{"rendered":"SA miners to bid for manganese export terminal concession"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A consortium of South African (SA) manganese miners will bid to build and operate a new export port for the mineral at Ngqura \u200bin Eastern Cape Province, African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) said on Friday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>ARM, \u200cwhose unit Assmang is a member of the Manganese Producers Consortium (MPC), said private companies were keen to partner with state-owned Transnet on the project, which is expected to add 16 \u200bmillion metric tons of manganese export capacity and improve logistics.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;The \u200bMPC intends to bid for the request for quotation \u2060with Transnet as a joint-venture partner for the design, build, construction \u200band operator of the new manganese ore export port at Ngqura, \u200bnamely the Ngqura Manganese Ore Export Terminal,&#8221; ARM said in a results statement.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Transnet has said it will invite bids for the Ngqura manganese export terminal around \u200bApril.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The freight rail and port operator is opening parts of its \u200bnetwork to private firms to help restore capacity that has slumped in recent years, throttling mineral exports.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>SA \u2060holds about 70% of the world&#8217;s manganese resources and is the top producer of the mineral, which is mainly used in steelmaking.
