{"id":27897,"date":"2026-03-06T11:47:51","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T09:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=27897"},"modified":"2026-03-06T11:47:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T09:47:51","slug":"caf-postpones-wafcon-from-march-to-july","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/caf-postpones-wafcon-from-march-to-july\/","title":{"rendered":"CAF postpones WAFCON from March to July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following months of uncertainty, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to postpone the Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The event, scheduled to start on the 17th of March in Morocco, will now take place from July 25 to ensure the success of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>CAF did not give reasons for the postponement other than saying it was due to unforeseen circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Morocco indicated that it could not honour its hosting responsibilities due to the demands on the country\u2019s stadia and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s league and international friendlies are scheduled for March. But Morocco and CAF were also at odds following the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat between the host country and Senegal earlier this year.
