South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Major General Siphiwe Sangweni says the behaviour of soldiers during their deployment inside South African borders to assist police is guided by the code of conduct.<\/p>\n
He was briefing the Joint Standing Committee on Defence on the conduct of SANDF members during deployment.<\/p>\n
Soldiers will be deployed in Gauteng, the Eastern and the Western Cape to assist police to fight gangsterism and illegal mining.
\nHe says during deployment, soldiers ensure daily adherence to the code of conduct.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat one is not regulated or enforced. It is in our drills that we do on a daily basis that soldiers must and will be reminded to adhere to the code of conduct when deployed. Trained soldiers to know why they are soldiers and how they must handle themselves as well as the population.\u201d<\/p>\n
