The United Kingdom (UK) and Nigeria have reached a new agreement aimed at making it easier to return Nigerian nationals who do not have the legal right to remain in the UK.<\/p>\n

Under the deal, the Nigerian government will, for the first time, recognise UK-issued letters used to identify individuals without valid passports. This means deportations can proceed without waiting for emergency travel documents to be issued.<\/p>\n

The agreement was finalised during the state visit of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the UK.<\/p>\n

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the visit as historic, noting that it is the first by a West African leader in 37 years. During the visit, King Charles III hosted a state banquet at Windsor Castle, where he praised the strong ties between the two nations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tinubu also held talks with the Prime Minister at Downing Street, as both countries look to strengthen co-operation on migration and broader relations.<\/p>\n
