According to Nkosi, Matlala suggested he needed the card urgently ahead of the purported meeting, an assertion that has now placed Mashatile at the centre of speculation regarding links to the accused.<\/p>\n

Mashatile has dismissed the allegations outright. In a statement issued by his office, he said he has no relationship or association with Matlala or any of the individuals mentioned in Nkosi\u2019s testimony.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf significance is that the Deputy President does not know the individual referred to in the testimony and has never had any association or dealings with them. Greater significance is that the Deputy President was out of the country at the time that Matlala purportedly met with him or intended to do so,\u201d said Acting Spokesperson Keith Khoza.<\/p>\n

Khoza added that Mashatile viewed the allegations as baseless and misleading, noting that his movements on the date in question are well\u2011documented and verifiable. He said Mashatile would cooperate fully with any legitimate process if required, but rejected any insinuation of improper contact.<\/p>\n

The Madlanga Commission is currently investigating alleged abuses of power and wrongdoing within elements of the police service, with several high\u2011profile witnesses providing testimony. Nkosi\u2019s claims form part of a broader narrative presented to the Commission regarding alleged interference and misconduct linked to senior police figures.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, legal proceedings against Matlala continue, with the accused facing charges related to an attempted murder case.<\/p>\n
