{"id":29769,"date":"2026-03-24T15:14:33","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T13:14:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=29769"},"modified":"2026-03-24T15:14:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T13:14:33","slug":"sa-deputy-president-reports-steady-decline-in-tb-cases-since-2015","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-deputy-president-reports-steady-decline-in-tb-cases-since-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"SA Deputy President reports steady decline in TB cases since 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The South African (SA) Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, says there has been a steady decline in the number of people contracting Tuberculosis (TB) annually compared to the 2015 baseline.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He was speaking during the National World TB Day commemoration event at Caledon in the Overberg District of the Western Cape province.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mashatile says the national TB programme has managed to achieve a reduction of TB incidence rate by sixty-one percent of new TB cases by 2024.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Treatment outcomes for drug-resistant TB patients have improved significantly. We are now seeing a 79% treatment success rate, and for the first time ever, lost-to-follow-up rates for Drug Resistant TB are in single digits.
