Growth is expected to remain within the 4.5% to 5.0% range over the medium term, assuming improvements in the security situation.

Inflation eased significantly, falling to around -0.5% in 2025 due to declining food prices, and is projected to gradually stabilise at about 2% in the coming years. The external position has also improved, with the current account expected to shift from a deficit in 2024 to a surplus of over 1% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025, driven largely by strong gold exports.

The IMF noted that fiscal consolidation efforts are on track. The budget deficit is expected to remain below the programme target of 4.0% of GDP in 2025, supported by stronger domestic revenues and controlled spending. Authorities have also met most programme targets and advanced key governance reforms, including improvements in tax administration and public procurement systems.

Despite these gains, the IMF warned that Burkina Faso faces significant structural challenges. Ongoing security concerns, climate shocks and infrastructure gaps continue to pose risks to growth and development. Rising temperatures and extreme weather events could reduce economic output and intensify pressure on agriculture, which supports the majority of the population.

To address these vulnerabilities, the IMF approved additional support under its Resilience and Sustainability Facility, aimed at strengthening climate adaptation, improving public investment and attracting green financing. Planned reforms focus on enhancing disaster risk management, integrating climate considerations into budgeting and improving the performance of state-owned enterprises.

The IMF stressed that maintaining reform momentum will be critical. Priorities include strengthening governance, supporting private sector growth and protecting spending on health, education and social protection to ensure inclusive development.

–IMF/ChannelAfrica–

[44
post-29891","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-finance","entry
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed cautious optimism about Burkina Faso’s economic outlook, highlighting resilience in growth and progress in reforms, while warning that security and climate risks continue to weigh on the country’s prospects.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed cautious optimism about Burkina Faso’s economic outlook, highlighting resilience in growth and progress in reforms, while warning that security and climate risks continue to weigh on the country’s prospects.
["GET
