Mladenov’s office, working with the US, Egypt, Türkiye and Qatar, has also finalised a framework for decommissioning and reintegrating armed groups.

He stressed that the framework rests on five principles, the first being reciprocity. “Decommissioning proceeds in parallel with staged withdrawal. This is fundamental to the credibility of the entire process.”

Mladenov urged the Council to reinforce that decommissioning is essential for reconstruction, Israeli withdrawal and progress toward Palestinian statehood through meaningful negotiations. He called on all states to press Hamas and other Palestinian factions to accept the framework immediately.

“The full implementation of the Comprehensive Plan is the only pathway that provides Israel with durable security,” he said. He added that there can be no credible route to Palestinian self‑determination if Gaza remains under the control of Hamas or other armed groups.

“It is in everyone’s interest, every member of this Council, every state in the region, the Palestinian National Authority and every Palestinian faction that cares about peace, to ensure implementation of the 20‑Point Plan,” Mladenov concluded.

–UN/ChannelAfrica–

[26
post-29894","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry
As tensions intensify across the Middle East, the international community must not lose sight of Gaza’s fragile situation, the High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, warned the United Nations (UN) Security Council on Tuesday during his first appearance before the body.

As tensions intensify across the Middle East, the international community must not lose sight of Gaza’s fragile situation, the High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, warned the United Nations (UN) Security Council on Tuesday during his first appearance before the body.
["GET
