The march forms part of a broader nationwide mobilisation, with organisers saying more than 32 00 events are taking place across all 50 states. Large rallies are also being held in cities including New York and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Organisers say the demonstrations aim to highlight concerns about democratic governance and the concentration of power.<\/p>\n
Protesters say they are concerned about policies they believe could undermine democratic norms.<\/p>\n
One participant, Alissa Tenet, explained her reasons for joining the protest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe illegal war, the illegal going into other countries and kidnapping their leaders is a big problem for me. But also just there\u2019s a lot of stuff that\u2019s going on too with trying to pass the SAVE Act, which can disenfranchise a lot of voters as well, which again makes it much more difficult for people to vote. And then we\u2019re going to end up with an even more difficult time to have a democracy,\u201d Tenet.<\/p>\n
Organisers say the protests are intended to be nonviolent and represent one of the largest coordinated demonstrations in recent US history.<\/p>\n
