Egypt\u2019s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged United States (US) President Donald Trump on Monday to stop the Iran \u200bwar and said fears of the oil price going \u200cabove $200 were not exaggerated.<\/p>\n
“I tell Trump: nobody can stop the war in our region in the Gulf but you,” Sisi said at the \u200bEgypt Energy Show 2026 energy conference in Cairo.<\/p>\n
Noting the \u200bimpact of supply shortages and price rises, Sisi cited \u2060analysts’ concerns that “the price of a barrel of oil could \u200breach more than $200, and this is not an exaggeration.”<\/p>\n
Egypt, long \u200ba recipient of US military aid and support from wealthy Gulf countries, has condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf Arab states and pushed diplomatic efforts to \u200bavoid a wider regional war.<\/p>\n
The secretary-general of the Gulf Co-operation \u200bCouncil (GCC) bloc, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, urged the international community to protect vital \u200cmaritime \u2060corridors, condemning Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its attacks on regional energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Addressing the conference virtually, he said Iranian aggression was a threat to the world.<\/p>\n
“The brutal Iranian threats \u200bagainst energy facilities \u200band the \u2060closure of the Strait of Hormuz constitute not only a blatant violation of international law but \u200balso a direct threat to global energy,” he \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n
The \u2060GCC, grouping Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, has faced drone and missile attacks. The closure of \u2060the \u200bStrait of Hormuz has choked off a \u200bcrucial route that previously handled about a fifth of global oil supplies.<\/p>\n
