{"id":30538,"date":"2026-04-01T16:01:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T14:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=30538"},"modified":"2026-04-01T16:33:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T14:33:55","slug":"agrisa-calls-for-fuel-relief-amid-food-price-concerns","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/agrisa-calls-for-fuel-relief-amid-food-price-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"AgriSA calls for fuel relief amid food price concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Agri South Africa (SA) has called on the government to ease recent fuel price increases, warning that they will affect food affordability.<\/div>\n<div id=\"x_ms-outlook-mobile-signature\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>The price of petrol has risen by R3 per ($0.18) litre, while the price of diesel has increased by between R7.37 ($0.20) and R7.51 ($0.21) per litre.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>The increases are linked to global oil price pressures amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>AgriSA Chief Executive Officer Johann Kotz\u00e9 says the impact of rising fuel costs will be felt across the food value chain.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe effect of diesel and petrol hikes, specifically for the food industry in SA, is what we need to look at and that goes for transport, it goes for logistics. It\u2019s not just for us as farmers. And normally that boils down to the end consumer paying more for food, which is essential in SA,\u201d said Kotz\u00e9.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>He adds, \u201cSo a big impact on the society of SA, of which we as farmers just form part of.
