Tiger Woods will not serve as United States (US) Captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup, the PGA of America said on Wednesday, \u200bafter the 15-time major champion announced he was stepping away \u200cto focus on his health.<\/p>\n
The PGA of America said it supported Woods’ decision as the 50-year-old announced he was seeking treatment following his arrest on \u200ba driving under the influence charge stemming from a rollover \u200bcrash in Florida last week.<\/p>\n
“Tiger has shared with us \u2060that he will not serve as Captain of the 2027 US \u200bRyder Cup Team and we support his decision,” the PGA of \u200bAmerica said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“The PGA of America stands in full support of Tiger Woods as he steps away to focus on his health and well-being. \u200bDuring this time, we are keeping Tiger in our thoughts \u200band prayers, with sincere hope for his strength, comfort, and recovery.”<\/p>\n
The organisation added that \u200cfurther \u2060updates on the captaincy would be provided in due course.<\/p>\n
Woods said on Tuesday that he was stepping away from golf to prioritise his well-being after pleading not guilty to DUI charges. Court documents \u200bshowed he has \u200brequested a \u2060jury trial, with his next court appearance scheduled for May.<\/p>\n
Following Woods’ announcement, Augusta National Golf Club, home \u200bof the Masters, confirmed the five-time champion would not \u200bbe \u2060on site next week for the year’s first major.<\/p>\n
The American, regarded as the greatest golfer of his generation, has been a long-time presence \u2060in team \u200bevents, including serving as a player-captain \u200bat the 2019 Presidents Cup.<\/p>\n
The 2027 Ryder Cup will be held at Adare Manor \u200bin Ireland.<\/p>\n
