South Africa’s (SA) Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says government is looking at rebuilding its oil refining capacity in the medium to long term.<\/p>\n
Ntshavheni’s comments come amid rising fuel prices and supply challenges due to the US-Israel and Iran conflict.<\/p>\n
She briefed the media on the post-cabinet meeting outcomes in Pretoria today.<\/p>\n
“Because if you check, the semblance of refining capacity is in SA and Ali Dangote in Nigeria. That is not safe for a continent to be reliant on other continents. And therefore, it is our responsibility as the leading economy in the continent to develop a reliable refining capacity not only for ourselves, but that could also supply the region and the continent. It’s part of those things that we are considering.”<\/p>\n
