Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva will leave the club at the end of the season, Assistant \u200bManager Pep Lijnders confirmed on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old Portugal \u200cinternational, who has won six Premier League titles and the Champions League during a nine-year spell at the Etihad Stadium, \u200bwill depart as a free agent when his \u200bcontract expires after the campaign concludes.<\/p>\n
“Every good story \u2060comes to an end,” Lijnders told reporters after \u200bCity’s 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool. “I hope he \u200benjoys the last months – there are only six weeks left\u00a0 and has a good farewell. He deserves all that attention.”<\/p>\n
Pep Guardiola, \u200bwho was serving a touchline suspension during the match, \u200bhas previously described Silva as “irreplaceable”.<\/p>\n
Silva joined City from AS Monaco \u200cin \u20602017 for a reported fee of about 43.5 million pounds ($57.35 million) and has since made 450 appearances for the club. Known for his tactical versatility, superb \u200btechnique and tireless \u200bwork rate, \u2060the midfielder has been a cornerstone of City’s side under Guardiola.<\/p>\n
After winning the League \u200bCup last month, City remain in contention \u200bfor \u2060a domestic treble as the 2025-26 campaign enters its final weeks, despite trailing Premier League leaders Arsenal by \u2060nine \u200bpoints. The Manchester club have a \u200bgame in hand and eight matches remaining to bridge the deficit.<\/p>\n
