South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed a ceasefire agreement involving the United States (US) and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward de\u2011escalation in the region.<\/div>\n

The agreement provides for a two week pause ahead of a deadline set by US President Donald Trump, with negotiations expected to take place during this period.<\/div>\n

Ramaphosa has reiterated SA’s long held position that dialogue remains the most effective path to peace, stressing that sustained engagement is essential to achieving a permanent end to the conflict.<\/div>\n

“We are encouraged by the current initiatives and ongoing efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive end to the conflict in the Middle East. We welcome the announcement of a ceasefire and are hopeful that it will lay the foundation for a permanent resolution to the conflict.<\/div>\n

SA once again calls for dialogue and mediation to prevent further loss of life and destruction of property, and to ensure a just, sustainable, and lasting peace”, Ramaphosa added.<\/div>\n
