{"id":32179,"date":"2026-04-16T18:14:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T16:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=32179"},"modified":"2026-04-16T18:14:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T16:14:35","slug":"sa-secures-110m-boost-for-first-end-to-end-vaccine-plant","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-secures-110m-boost-for-first-end-to-end-vaccine-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"SA secures $110m boost for first end-to-end vaccine plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s (SA) vaccine manufacturer, Biovac, has secured a $110 million financing package to build Africa\u2019s first fully integrated multi-vaccine manufacturing facility in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The funding, backed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB), is expected to significantly boost vaccine production capacity on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The project is aimed at reducing Africa\u2019s reliance on imported vaccines, while strengthening preparedness for future pandemics and improving access to life-saving immunisations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is also expected to create more than 340 skilled jobs and around 7 000 indirect employment opportunities as the facility expands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Biovac Chief Executive Officer Morena Makhoana says the funding marks a major milestone in the company\u2019s growth plans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe significance of today is that we have secured \u20ac75 million ($88 million) from the EIB and an additional $20 million from the IFC.
