Fighting has flared up again in Cameroon, with separatist fighters launching fresh attacks that have left several soldiers and civilians dead. The violence comes just days after a temporary ceasefire had raised cautious hope that tensions in the country\u2019s Anglophone regions might ease.<\/p>\n

The lull in fighting had followed a visit by Pope Leo, who had urged all sides to put down their weapons and give peace a chance. For a brief moment, it seemed that message might be taking hold. But the latest clashes have quickly dashed those expectations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Years of conflict in the English-speaking regions have already taken a heavy toll, with thousands killed and many more forced from their homes. The renewed attacks are a reminder of how fragile the situation remains.<\/p>\n

Cameroonian educationist and civil society advocate Bih Gladys Che says the return to violence is deeply troubling, especially after recent calls for calm.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to start peace efforts from the ground up,\u201d she said. \u201cIt begins in our homes, with our children and families. Every Cameroonian has a role to play in spreading this message.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She also made a direct appeal to those involved in the fighting, acknowledging the frustrations that have built up over time.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cDays have turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. People are hurting. We understand that. But we are asking, please listen. Give peace a chance, for the sake of those who have lost their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
