{"id":32698,"date":"2026-04-22T09:35:01","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T07:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=32698"},"modified":"2026-04-22T09:35:01","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T07:35:01","slug":"middle-east-conflict-continue-to-place-pressure-on-sarbs-performance","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/middle-east-conflict-continue-to-place-pressure-on-sarbs-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Middle East conflict continue to place pressure on SARB\u2019s performance&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The current Middle East conflict runs the risk of placing stagflation pressures on the global economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">This was the concern raised by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) in its release of its Monetary Policy Review for the six months over October 2025 to March 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">This, in light of the uncertain and highly volatile situation that has resulted in significantly higher oil prices, with the Brent crude oil price breaching the $100 a barrel mark.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">But the SARB\u2019s key message was that despite the current energy shock, it remains committed to anchoring inflation to 3% target level in the medium-to-long term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Various stakeholders braved the cold weather to get the Reserve Bank\u2019s reflections on monetary policy over the period of October 2025 through to March 2026.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">It noted that inflation had been subdued during the period, reaching the new inflation target of 3.0% by February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">But that the United States and Israel-led war against Iran, initiated at the end of February, had now reversed the fortunes of local and global growth, with inflation expected to surge in the near-term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">But the SARB Governor said the bank would not be detracted from still pursuing its latest inflation target over the long-term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;SABC&#8211;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":22416,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[],"class_list":["post-32698","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":"","news_description":"SARB in its release of its Monetary Policy Review","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/32698","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/32698\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":32699,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/32698\/revisions\/32699"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/22416"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=32698"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=32698"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
