The current conflicts and security challenges facing Africa came under the spotlight at the recently concluded Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Senegal.<\/div>\n
\nThe gathering was attended by representatives from governments, academia, media, civil society, and multilateral organisations.<\/div>\n
\nWest Africa has experienced a number of coups and the rise of insurgents.<\/div>\n
\nSounds of gunfire have become a familiar occurrence in some countries.<\/div>\n
\nThe African Union has adopted a resolution to silence the guns before 2030.<\/div>\n

As the deadline fast approaches, more sounds of gunfire have become louder in countries such as Sudan, where the civil war has escalated.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In South Sudan, a fragile peace agreement has collapsed, and fighting has resumed in some parts of the country of the newest nation.<\/p>\n

In the East African region, the Democratic Republic of Congo conflict in the east is not being solved either.<\/p>\n

The Sahel region, which includes the Western African countries, has had its share of instability.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nThe African continent has regressed, with several countries experiencing coups, mostly in the Sahel region.<\/div>\n
\nThese include Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Guinea-Bissau. In Central Africa, Gabon experienced a similar situation, while in Southern Africa, Madagascar was the only country that had a coup.<\/div>\n
