Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes expressed hope that he and his teammates can help crown Cristiano Ronaldo’s \u200binternational career by winning the 2026 World \u200cCup.<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old Ronaldo is set to appear in a record sixth World Cup in June, a tournament expected to \u200bbe the final major chapter of the forward’s \u200bcareer.<\/p>\n
“Wrapping up all this last World Cup with \u2060Cristiano (Ronaldo) winning it would be something amazing,” Fernandes \u200btold Wayne Rooney in a BBC report published \u200bon Friday.<\/p>\n
“I really hope we can make it happen, not just for Portugal, but for everything Cristiano gave to football and \u200bthe world,” the Portuguese midfielder and Manchester United \u200bcaptain said.
\nRonaldo, considered one of the greatest players ever to \u200chave \u2060not won a World Cup, is the record scorer in international football with 143 goals.<\/p>\n
The five-time Ballon d\u2019Or winner was part of Portugal’s Euro 2016-winning team \u200band has lifted \u200bthe Nations \u2060League twice.<\/p>\n
Portugal’s opening Group K game is on June 17 against the Democratic \u200bRepublic of Congo, followed by Uzbekistan \u200bon June \u206023, with both games in Houston. They play Colombia on June 27 in Miami in their final \u2060group \u200bgame.<\/p>\n
The World Cup runs from June \u200b11 to July 19 in Canada, the United States and Mexico.<\/p>\n
