{"id":33294,"date":"2026-04-29T13:23:39","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T11:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=33294"},"modified":"2026-04-29T13:23:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T11:23:39","slug":"sa-court-sentences-mugabe-to-24-months-imprisonment-co-accused-three-years","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-court-sentences-mugabe-to-24-months-imprisonment-co-accused-three-years\/","title":{"rendered":"SA court sentences Mugabe to 24 months imprisonment, co-accused three years"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Bellarmine Mugabe has been sentenced by South Africa&#8217;s (SA) to 24-months in prison or a $21.600 (R400 000) fine for pointing a toy firearm, as well as 18 months imprisonment or a $10.800 (R200 000) fine for being in the country illegally.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>However, the charge of pointing a firearm relates to a separate incident, just two weeks before the shooting at his Hyde Park home.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The sentence was handed down by the Alexandra Regional Court, north of Johannesburg, Gauteng Province.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>His co-accused Tobias Matonhodze has been sentenced to three-years imprisonment for attempted murder, 12-months for contravening the immigration act, 12-months for defeating the ends of justice and a further 12-months behind bars for possession of a firearm and ammunition.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This relates to a shooting incident involving an employee at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park in February.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In handing down sentences, Magistrate Reiner Boshoff further ordered that Mugabe should be deported today at his own cost.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8211;SABC&#8211;<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">WATCH | Bellarmine Mugabe and co-accused Tobias Matonhodze have been sentenced at the Alexandra Regional Court in Johannesburg.
