{"id":33582,"date":"2026-05-03T09:05:25","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T07:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=33582"},"modified":"2026-05-03T09:05:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T07:05:25","slug":"somali-pirates-hijack-oil-tanker-in-gulf-of-aden","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/somali-pirates-hijack-oil-tanker-in-gulf-of-aden\/","title":{"rendered":"Somali pirates hijack oil tanker in Gulf of Aden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An oil tanker has been hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden, in a fresh sign of rising insecurity along one of the world\u2019s busiest shipping routes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The vessel, MT Eureka, was sailing under the flag of Togo when it was overrun by armed men near the Yemeni port of Qana at around 5:00am CAT.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sources say the tanker is now being steered towards Somalia and is expected to anchor in Somali waters in the coming hours.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hijacking took place in the Gulf of Aden, a key maritime corridor between Yemen and Somalia that has long been vulnerable to piracy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is the second such incident in just over a week.
