The government has already raised domestic fuel prices by \u200bup to 17% in March in response \u200bto soaring global energy costs, and \u2060is seeking to reduce fuel and \u200belectricity subsidies under an $8 billion programme \u200bagreed with the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n

The decree raised the price of gas by an average \u200bof $2, reaching $14 per million British thermal \u200bunits for cement factories, $7.75 for iron and steel, \u200cnon-nitrogen \u2060fertilisers and petrochemicals, and between $6.50 and $6.75 for other industrial activities and petrochemical plants producing ethane and propane mixtures.<\/p>\n

The increases \u200bdo not \u200bapply to \u2060consumers, whose gas supply contracts already include pricing formulas, the \u200bdecree said.<\/p>\n

Egypt’s energy import bill \u200bhas \u2060more than doubled, while monthly natural gas import costs have nearly tripled since the \u2060outbreak \u200bof the United States-Israeli war with \u200bIran, with increased reliance on LNG imports or regional producers.<\/p>\n
