Over the weekend, the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported intensive military activity by Israeli forces, including extensive airstrikes near several villages, continued naval operations off the coast of Naqoura, plus drone activity nearby. UNIFIL also recorded restrictions on movement near Al Bayyada, where Israeli tanks blocked a road used by UNIFIL patrols. Another UNIFIL position was impacted by machine gun fire, with one round striking a UN vehicle parked inside a compound.<\/p>\n

UN Spokesperson St\u00e9phane Dujarric told a press briefing in New York that peacekeepers must never be targeted and that safety plus security must be guaranteed by all parties. Despite insecurity, UNIFIL facilitated an aid convoy of about 30 trucks to the border town of Rmeich, where roughly 7 000 residents remain under difficult conditions.<\/p>\n

Lebanese authorities reported 13 deaths, including 1 child, 4 women, plus 32 injuries from strikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday. Displacement continues to climb, with more than 124 000 people sheltering in 625 schools plus public buildings, according to national figures cited by UN partners. New displacement orders issued for 11 towns in Nabatieh were followed by airstrikes, forcing further movement. Some families attempting to return home have reportedly returned to shelters after finding homes destroyed or inaccessible.<\/p>\n

UN partners said the situation remains highly volatile, particularly in southern areas plus locations where displaced families are attempting to return. Health service availability is severely reduced, with 3 hospitals plus 41 primary healthcare centres still non-operational. Several other facilities are only partially functioning, focusing mainly on emergency care plus chronic disease management. Health officials warned that persistent gaps could drive avoidable deaths plus a wider healthcare crisis.<\/p>\n

UN Relief Chief Tom Fletcher said aid teams continue working to support Palestinians in Gaza but require sustained access, civilian protection, neutrality plus partnership. Recent deliveries reached nearly 4 500 households with tents, bedding plus emergency supplies. Health partners also reported rising skin disease plus illness linked to poor living conditions. More than 6 600 people require prosthetic plus rehabilitation care, with only 8 prosthetic technicians currently available in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Humanitarian partners estimate that about 20% of amputees are children, with current needs expected to take years to address without expanded resources plus access.<\/p>\n
