The United Arab Emirates (UAE) denied allegations by Sudan that an Emirati drone had been used in an attack on Khartoum airport on Monday launched \u200bfrom Ethiopia, according to a statement by a UAE official late \u200con Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sudan has long accused the UAE of backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which have been fighting the Sudanese army in a three-year-old civil war that has devastated the \u200bcountry.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Gulf state has denied this and said it seeks an \u200bend to the conflict, one of the world’s deadliest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Late on Monday, \u2060Sudan’s army Spokesperson alleged an escalation in UAE support, broadcasting images and \u200bflight paths he said showed Emirati-owned drones that had taken off from Ethiopia’s Bahir \u200bDar airport and struck several locations in Sudan in March and May.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Reuters was not able to independently verify the information.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sudanese officials also said they were prepared to respond to \u200bthe alleged violation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Asked for comment by Reuters, the UAE official said: “These fabrications are \u200bpart of a calculated pattern of deflection \u2013 shifting blame to others to evade responsibility for \u200ctheir \u2060own actions and are intended to prolong the war and obstruct a genuine peace process.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ethiopia in a statement had also denied the allegations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In statements on Tuesday, Egypt and Saudi Arabia condemned the attack on Khartoum airport, which had recently re-opened \u200bto flights. Both \u200bcountries warned against \u2060interference by Sudan’s neighbours.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
