{"id":33929,"date":"2026-05-07T08:15:46","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T06:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=33929"},"modified":"2026-05-07T08:15:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T06:15:58","slug":"sa-aviation-authorities-ready-for-severe-weather","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-aviation-authorities-ready-for-severe-weather\/","title":{"rendered":"SA aviation authorities ready for severe weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African (SA) Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says the aviation sector is equipped to manage changing weather conditions affecting parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Inclement weather continues to impact the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape provinces , with strong winds and heavy rain reported in several areas.<\/p>\n<p>CAA Executive Poppy Khoza says the aviation system is designed to operate under complex conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Khoza says, \u201cCivil aviation is built around those complexities, including adverse weather conditions and so on, but the system is designed equally to withstand and\/or have an ability to navigate within those complexities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that I can say is that when the weather is adverse such that an aircraft is unable to take off, the pilot is able to take a decision, assisted by the air navigation service provider and, in this instance ants, so there are a lot of checks and balances in the system that are built to ensure that aircraft when they navigate through these adverse weather patterns, they do so safely,\u201d Khoza adds.<\/p>\n<p>Khoza was speaking on the sidelines of the 2026 National Aviation Conference in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;SABC&#8211;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":23252,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"news-type":[26],"class_list":["post-33929","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":"","news_description":"","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/33929","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/33929\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":33930,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/33929\/revisions\/33930"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/23252"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=33929"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=33929"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
