The remarks followed a closed-door Security Council meeting briefed by Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, focused on missile and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported on Monday. UAE authorities said Iran was responsible, while Tehran denied involvement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Dujarric said DiCarlo underscored that from the start of the conflict on February 28, UN Secretary\u2011General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres condemned unlawful attacks in the Middle East plus beyond. Dujarric said Guterres also stressed that Security Council resolution 2817 (2026) must be respected, with civilians plus civilian infrastructure protected. The resolution was adopted in March after Iranian attacks on neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n
Dujarric said Personal Envoy Jean Arnault continues diplomatic consultations in the region, with a meeting scheduled with the Turkish foreign minister on Wednesday. Dujarric said UN commitment remains in place to support efforts aimed at a comprehensive, durable resolution. The Security Council session was requested by Bahrain after strikes hit an oil terminal in Fujairah, causing damage plus civilian casualties, according to Bahrain\u2019s Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei. Alrowaiei described the attacks as part of an escalating pattern threatening Gulf stability, plus a violation of resolution 2817 (2026).<\/p>\n
UAE Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab told reporters that Iran launched 12 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles, plus 4 drones, triggering a fire in the Fujairah oil industry zone. Abushahab said air defences intercepted most threats, with 3 civilians injured. Abushahab added that UAE forces have intercepted more than 500 ballistic missiles, nearly 30 cruise missiles, plus more than 2 000 drones since February 28.<\/p>\n
Commercial vessels continue to face attacks in the corridor, Abushahab said, warning that disruption affects energy markets, supply chains, food prices plus global economic stability.<\/p>\n
The UN maritime agency reported an attack on a French vessel, the San Antonio, on Tuesday in the Strait of Hormuz, injuring 8 seafarers. The agency has confirmed 32 incidents plus 10 fatalities to date.<\/p>\n
