Several opposition parties in Burundi have suspended their participation in preparations for the country\u2019s 2027 presidential election, citing concerns over the credibility of the electoral process.<\/p>\n

Five political parties, including the CNL, UPRONA, CODEBU, FRODEBU and CDP, boycotted a meeting organised by Burundi\u2019s Independent National Electoral Commission on preparations for the vote.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The parties accuse the electoral commission of ignoring alleged irregularities reported during the 2025 legislative, communal and local elections.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The opposition says its decision reflects growing frustration over what it describes as a lack of transparency and accountability in the handling of previous elections.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Speaking on the matter, Aim\u00e9 Magera, the international representative of the opposition party CNL, said the group could not continue participating in a process it believes lacks credibility.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot take part in discussions about future elections while concerns raised about previous polls remain unresolved,\u201d Magera said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He added that the opposition wanted guarantees of a fair and transparent electoral process before rejoining talks with the electoral commission.<\/p>\n
