{"id":34343,"date":"2026-05-12T20:17:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T18:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=34343"},"modified":"2026-05-12T20:51:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T18:51:46","slug":"sa-tourism-department-sets-target-of-50-million-tourists-by-2030","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-tourism-department-sets-target-of-50-million-tourists-by-2030\/","title":{"rendered":"SA Tourism Department sets target of 50 million tourists by 2030 \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tourism Minister Patricia De Lille says South Africa\u2019s (SA) tourism industry is aiming to attract 50 million international visitors by 2030, as part of a broader strategy to grow the economy and create jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the opening of the Africa\u2019s Travel Indaba at the Durban International Convention Centre, De Lille highlighted tourism as a key driver for economic growth across Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event features more than 1 000 exhibitors from over 20 African countries and includes discussions focused on expanding the continent\u2019s tourism economy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>De Lille added that the sector\u2019s long-term objective is to help create more than one-million jobs before the end of 2029.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Cyril Ramaphosa gave me a target that by 2030, we must welcome 50 million visitors to our country. He said Minister, you must also create more than one-million jobs by 2029. So, we have a target that we are working towards and the President is monitoring us very closely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the same event, l Ramaphosa described tourism as the major economic contributor in the continent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many African countries, tourism is not merely a leisure industry. It is a developmental instrument. It becomes an instrument through which we can grow our economies.
