{"id":34466,"date":"2026-05-14T09:10:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T07:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=34466"},"modified":"2026-05-14T09:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T07:20:10","slug":"calls-grow-for-stronger-whistleblower-protection-laws-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/calls-grow-for-stronger-whistleblower-protection-laws-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Calls grow for stronger whistleblower protection laws in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Anti-corruption activists are calling for tougher protection for whistleblowers in South Africa (SA).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Active Citizens Movement (ACM) has submitted proposed amendments to the Whistleblower Protection Bill to the Justice Department.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The civil society organisation warns that the current draft still leaves whistleblowers exposed and vulnerable.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The ACM\u2019s Executive Member, Pops Rampersad, says without stronger legal safeguards, people exposing corruption will continue risking their lives, livelihoods and mental health.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cIt\u2019s been a five-year journey by ACM, engaging whistleblowers, analysing gaps, and drafting solutions. We have finally turned the promise of the Zondo Commission into a concrete bill. Now it\u2019s over to the Department of Justice and Parliament to act.
