{"id":34640,"date":"2026-05-16T13:05:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=34640"},"modified":"2026-05-16T13:05:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:05:50","slug":"botswanas-vice-president-praises-mogaes-legacy-of-disciplined-leadership","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/botswanas-vice-president-praises-mogaes-legacy-of-disciplined-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"Botswana\u2019s Vice President praises Mogae\u2019s legacy of disciplined leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe has described Botswana\u2019s late former President Festus Mogae as an institution in African leadership, praising his integrity and disciplined approach to governance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during Mogae\u2019s state funeral service in Gaborone, Gaolathe said the best way to honour the former leader would be to uphold the values he lived by throughout his life and public service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said Mogae guided Botswana through difficult economic and political periods while ensuring the country remained stable and forward-looking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pressures were immense and the temptations were real. Across the continent, economies struggled under debt and weak institutions, but Botswana stood firm.
