SA’s Coega green ammonia project picks Denmark’s Topsoe for $1 billion deal<\/span>South Africa’s (SA) Coega green ammonia project has selected Danish company Topsoe to supply \u200belectrolyser cell technology and other equipment in \u200ca deal valued around $1 billion, the project developers said late on Monday.<\/div>\n

The $5.8 billion plant on SA’s east \u200bcoast aims to supply 1 million metric \u200btons of green ammonia by 2030.<\/div>\n

The project \u2060at the port of Coega, jointly developed by \u200bBritain’s Hive Energy and SA partner BuiltAfrica, \u200bis competing with other African countries such as Morocco and Namibia to meet rising demand for hydrogen and ammonia \u200bin Europe and Asia<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The ammonia, used in making fertiliser \u200band in the chemical industry, is considered green because it \u200cis \u2060produced using renewable energy such as solar and wind power.<\/div>\n

Giles Redpath, chief executive officer of Hive Energy said in the statement that Topsoe’s green ammonia \u200btechnology would \u200ballow the \u2060company to cut renewable energy capital expenditure by more than $582.20 \u200bmillion.<\/div>\n

The Coega Green Ammonia Project is \u200bin \u2060its final stage of development and is on track to commence Front End Engineering Design in the \u2060third \u200bquarter 2026 and conclude Final \u200bInvestment Decisions by the third quarter of 2027.<\/div>\n
