{"id":34909,"date":"2026-05-20T07:25:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T05:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=34909"},"modified":"2026-05-20T07:26:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T05:26:48","slug":"oxfam-warns-drc-ebola-outbreak-could-spiral-into-major-humanitarian-crisis","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/oxfam-warns-drc-ebola-outbreak-could-spiral-into-major-humanitarian-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxfam warns DRC Ebola outbreak could spiral into major humanitarian crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oxfam has warned that the latest Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) could push an already fragile humanitarian situation closer to collapse.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The warning follows the World Health Organisation\u2019s (WHO) declaration of the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Manenji Mangudu, Oxfam Country Director in the DRC said aid workers and health officials on the ground are reporting deeply worrying conditions in affected communities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are already deaths in the community. When people die at home, it means there are many more undetected cases.
