Umm Ahmad, a resident displaced from Jabalia in northern Gaza, said her family has moved four times since the start of the conflict.

Umm Ahmad said current living conditions are difficult, with limited space, exposure to weather and a lack of basic infrastructure. The family now lives in a small tent that provides little protection from heat, cold and rain.

Umm Ahmad said overcrowding is a major concern, with multiple family members sharing a confined space. Privacy is limited, and attempts to expand living space are constrained by a lack of land and materials.

Access to food and water remains restricted. Umm Ahmad said food is stored in elevated positions within the tent to avoid contamination by rodents. Reports from humanitarian organisations indicate that pest infestations are common in camps, where sanitation systems are limited.

Water scarcity is also affecting daily life. Umm Ahmad said water is stored manually in small containers, with supplies insufficient to meet household needs. Humanitarian agencies estimate that most families rely on water deliveries by truck, which are subject to logistical challenges.

The broader humanitarian situation remains severe. Infrastructure damage and restrictions on supplies have affected the delivery of essential services, including healthcare. Reports indicate that only a portion of hospitals are partially operational, with shortages of medical equipment and supplies affecting treatment capacity.

Umm Ahmad said the family’s previous home was destroyed during the conflict, leaving no immediate prospect of return. The family is among many displaced households now dependent on temporary shelters for extended periods.

Seasonal conditions have added to hardship. Winter conditions have caused flooding in tents, while summer has brought increased exposure to heat, insects and rodents.

Humanitarian agencies have warned that continued restrictions on the entry of supplies could further affect access to water, sanitation equipment and medical services. Maintenance of critical infrastructure, including water systems, is also at risk due to limited resources.

The situation has resulted in prolonged displacement for a significant number of residents, with temporary shelters becoming semi-permanent living arrangements.

Umm Ahmad said daily life now centres on securing basic needs in a constrained environment, reflecting broader challenges facing displaced populations in Gaza.

–UN/ChannelAfrica–

[26
post-35355","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry
Living conditions for displaced families in Gaza continue to deteriorate, with ongoing violence, limited access to basic services and shortages of essential supplies affecting daily life.

Living conditions for displaced families in Gaza continue to deteriorate, with ongoing violence, limited access to basic services and shortages of essential supplies affecting daily life.
["GET
