{"id":35409,"date":"2026-05-26T09:16:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T07:16:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=35409"},"modified":"2026-05-26T09:17:02","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T07:17:02","slug":"biovac-vaccine-project-expected-create-jobs-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/biovac-vaccine-project-expected-create-jobs-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Biovac vaccine project expected create jobs in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa&#8217;s (SA) Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau says the expansion project to build Africa\u2019s first end-to-end multi-vaccine manufacturing site at SA\u2019s Biovac plant in Cape Town, Western Cape province can play a major role in growing the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion was announced after Biovac secured a financing package of around R1.8 billion ($110 million) from various international stakeholders last month.<\/p>\n<p>This will advance self-reliance in vaccine production for SA and the African continent after huge gaps were identified during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Tau was speaking during a sod-turning ceremony for the new facility at Biovac\u2019s site in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c These are certainly high-end jobs that we are talking about. These are researchers, these are chemists, these are engineers that participate in the research and development processes of vaccines and pharmaceutical products, and I think it\u2019s important for the growth of SA&#8217;s economy.
